REST IS UNKNOWN

The first fruit from the womb of a woman
It’s a birthright that comes with a burden
A burden only felt by an African first born
With this birthright rest is unknown

This honour comes with a burden
Their siblings on the back they can’t neglect
Unspoken rule, the family name protect
Tiny shoulders have to bear this burden

Growing up is the only option
Being a child was never an option
A childhood takes flight
Before they know it it’s out of sight

Responsibility is a birthright
Diplomacy a passage rite
Referring sibling fights
When not cooking, cleaning is their plight

Now adults and they can’t sit back
Parents on their backs
They’ve still got their siblings backs
Someone give the African child a break
