WORDS IN MY HEAD

I can see you’re hurting
I can hear it in your voice
I know what I should say
In my head, I have the words
To take away your hurt
Clearly spelt out, I can see them
I can hear me say them

I can see it in your eyes
The pain is consuming
And I know what I should say
I have the words in my head
To ease your pain
Clearly spelt out, I can see them
I can hear me say them

I can tell by just looking
You are just hanging by the thread
You wish there was something I’d say
I know what I should say
I have the words in my head
To take away your hurt
Clearly spelt out, I can see them
I can hear me say them

Your gaze searching
Your voice is hopeful, the tone pleading
For me to say something reassuring
And I know, what I should say
I have the words
But they are stuck in my head
And my tongue won’t move
And my voice is mute

The words in my head
When I look at them
When I hear me say them
They bring a smile to your face
Like an elixir they are healing
They are reassuring
Clear as they are, I can’t say them

I feel the pressure of your expectation
I feel anxiety, from your expectation
I feel limited & I’d hate to let you down
I know I can’t take away the hurt
I know I can’t erase your pain
I am sure I can’t fix anything
So I’ll keep the words in my head
Clear as they are I can’t say them
Clear as they sound I won’t say them
I will bite my tongue and listen
